Real Madrid were left eight points clear on Sunday when a first-half penalty from Marcos Senna and Jon Dahl Tomasson’s 81st-minute goal cancelled out Xavi’s second-half equaliser at the Nou Camp as Frank Rijkaard’s side were condemned to their second consecutive league defeat.
But Rijkaard believes that the title race if far from over and has refused to see his side as being too far behind Real Madrid after losing 2-1 to Villarreal on Sunday.
The Dutchman thought it was too early for anything to be decided , despite the gap remaining eight points after the result in Camp Nou.
“It is difficult to speak about that now,” Rijkaard said. “We are only in March and I have never seen competitions won in March
“We have to keep playing and try to win every game that we have left.
Real had laboured to come back from 2-1 down against Espanyol at the Bernabeu on Saturday with goals from Gonzalo Higuain and a penalty from Raul, his 200th league goal.
Real have 62 points, Barca 54 and Villarreal 50.
Atletico Madrid are fourth with 44 after losing 2-1 away to Real Zaragoza on Saturday, the same as fifth-placed Racing Santander, who closed on them with a 3-0 home win over ten-man Real Betis on Sunday.
