Rafa Benitez finally got some good news.
Steven Gerrard’s hat-trick helped Liverpool cruise into the FA Cup fourth round with a 5-0 win against League One outfit Luton on Tuesday.
Benitez’s position looks increasingly untenable after Liverpool’s American owners admitted they held talks with Jurgen Klinsmann over the manager’s job late last year.
But the Spaniard at least avoided an embarrassing third round replay defeat.
Thanks for Gerrard’s treble (52, 64, 72) and goals from Ryan Babel (45) and Sami Hyypia (57) at Anfield.
Robbie Keane’s strike gave Tottenham a 1-0 victory at Reading and a fourth-round meeting with Manchester United.
In Tuesday’s other replays, it was Millwall 2, Walsall 1; Bury 2, Norwich 1. West Bromwich Albion edged Charlton 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
