Arsenal won 4-1 at Everton on Saturday behind Eduardo Silva’s two goals, moving into first place in the Premier League ahead of Manchester United.

Defending champion United slipped from top spot after it lost 2-1 at West Ham, with Cristiano Ronaldo missing a penalty kick after a hand ball by Jonathan Spector and giving West Ham a chance to rally.

Ronaldo had put United in front with his 18th goal of the season before Anton Ferdinand and Matthew Upson scored for the Hammers.

Chelsea moved back into contention after it beat visiting Newcastle 2-1, while Tottenham rallied three times before beating Reading 6-4.

Everton had lost just once, to Manchester United, in 15 matches before facing the Gunners.

Arsenal leads the league with 47 points, followed by United with 45 and Chelsea with 41.
