Inter Milan extended their lead at the top of Serie A to seven points after a 2-0 win at bottom side Cagliari on Sunday.
Julio Ricardo Cruz scored in the 57th minute and Honduras striker David Suazo added a goal in the 79th.
The unbeaten defending champions took advantage of second-placed AS Roma drawing 0-0 at Torino, who should have beaten their more illustrious visitors.
Inter leads with 40 points. Roma is next with 33 points, followed by Juventus with 32, Udinese with 28, Fiorentina with 25 and Palermo with 24.
Roma are one point above third-placed Juventus, who won 3-2 at Lazio on Saturday thanks to Alessandro Del Piero’s second-half brace.
