The cast list for Euro 2008 will be completed on Wednesday with England, Northern Ireland and Portugal among those nations scrapping it out for one of the four remaining places.
It will be something of a surprise if England, Portugal, Sweden and Turkey fail to advance to next year’s tournament in Switzerland and Austria.
After a roller coaster journey Steve McClaren’s side are lying second in Group E on 23 points, three behind already qualified Croatia and two clear of Russia.
England needs only to avoid defeat against visiting Croatia to clinch one of the four spots still up for grabs.
The European Brazil, Portugal, will advance if it wins or draws with Finland ini Group C.
With Sweden a firm favorite to clinch a spot in Group F when it hosts Latvia, and Turkey leading for the remaining Group C place, it looks as though all seven groups will go without surprises.
