Colombia Holds Brazil

Brazil struggled to an uninspiring goalless draw 0-0 away to Colombia in their opening match of the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign on Sunday.

Kaka, Ronaldinho and Robinho–Brazil’s biggest stars–were eclipsed by Colombia’s Radamel Falcao Garcia, Aquivaldo Mosquera and Carlos Alberto Sanchez.

Coach Dunga and his players blamed the journey to Bogota, the crowd, the pitch, the weather and the altitude, among other things, for their team’s lacklustre display.

Meanwhile, Juan Roman Riquelme scored off two first-half free kicks Saturday as Argentina beat Chile 2-0 in the opening World Cup qualifier for both teams.

Riquelme notched his goals in the 26th and 45th minutes against a Chilean team that has never beaten its South American rival.
