Coventry City knocked Manchester United’s young fringe players from the Carling Cup with a 2-0 win at Old Trafford.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson changed his entire team from the one that beat Chelsea on Sunday but it back-fired and he paid the price with an embarrassing defeat
At the other match, Salomon Kalou’s double strike helped Chelsea book their place in the League Cup fourth round with a 4-0 win at Hull that secured Avram Grant’s first victory since taking over from Jose Mourinho.
Scott Sinclair notched his first senior goal in the 37th minute to start the rout of Championship strugglers Hull and bring a relieved smile to the face of Grant, whose side ended a winless run of four matches.
