Clearly looking like they had a point to prove, Inter Milan convincingly beat Sampdoria 3-0 at home and caught up with AS Roma on top of the Serie A table.
With Roma being held to a 2-2 draw at Fiorentina it left them and Inter on 11 points, with Roma retaining the lead on goal difference.
Juventus produced a magnificent second-half performance to pummel Reggina 4-0. That pushed Juve into third, one point behind the leaders.
The big surprise of Wednesday night’s full league programme was the 2-1 defeat imposed on European champions AC Milan by Palermo, Milan’s first loss of the season.
