Barcelona, Manchester United, Arsenal and AS Roma opened with victories Wednesday night in the European Champions League, while Internazionale of Milan lost on the road.
Barcelona, the 2006 champion, defeated visiting Lyon 3-0 in group E, Wednesday. Thierry Henry finally ended his Spanish goal drought with an injury-time goal.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored against his former club in the 62nd minute, leading Manchester United to a 1-0 victory at Sporting Lisbon.
Serie A leaders Roma continued their impressive form, moving top of group F ahead of United thanks to a 2-0 win over Dynamo Kiev.
And another English team, Arsenal, beat visiting Sevilla, last season’s UEFA Cup champion, 3-0 in group H.
One of the biggest shocks of the night came in Istanbul, were Fenerbahce found delight in a 1-0 victory over Italian champions Inter Milan.
